Lake Forest Redevelopment

Deby Sarabia, Merikay Smith, Janette Rosenbaum, Tim Goodfellow and others testified on Jan. 17, 2023 to the Gaithersburg City Council on the proposed Lake Forest redevelopment plan. We asked that the city retain the 1.7 acres of woods (with mature trees including 4 species of oak) as well as all of the current stormwater ponds. We’ve also asked that the plan include daylighting Walker’s Run which otherwise will continue to flow through pipes underground, though through a different set of pipes. Given the expense of digging up and replacing the underground system it is worth instead creating an above ground stream as part of a linear park with walking paths and native plantings. Public input will be accepted on this plan until Feb. 17 for the Planning Commission. The Gaithersburg Mayor & City Council is also taking public comments until Friday March 10, 2023.
