Neighborhood Leaders

We’re recruiting Neighborhood Leaders who agree to help host/plan one event annually in the Seneca Watershed near them. This can be a simple trash pickup where neighbors are invited and SCWP helps out with publicity and supplies, a hike, or something more. Our watershed covers ~ 1/3 of Montgomery County and includes many tributaries as well as Great Seneca, Seneca, Little Seneca and Dry Seneca. WE NEED YOUR HELP to be able to host events throughout the watershed, not just in a few locations. Email senecacreekwp@gmail.com to volunteer as a Neighborhood Leader!

Trash Dash - Todd & Jenn

Led by Todd and Jenn, our volunteer group adopted White Ground Rd. in Boyds around 2021 to combat illegal dumping and preserve the natural beauty of this historic area. They have successfully advocated for reduced speed limits, "No Dumping" signage, and organized community cleanups. They’re passionate about protecting Bucklodge Creek and the Seneca Creek Watershed and avid supporters of environmental preservation throughout the region, participating in creek cleanups and collaborating with local landowners on historical preservation projects.

Francoise “Frankie” Andre and Apostol Vassilev

Frankie and Apostol frequently clear trash from the “Horse Hole/Big Bend” area on Berryville Road, Darnestown, with the help of their neighbors. If you want to help, email senecacreekwp.org and we’ll connect you with Frankie and Apostol. This area has a high volume of visitors as well as of trash. We are also working with State Park Rangers and the State Highway to improve signage in the area.

Thomas Pough - Poolesville

Thomas and his family are representing Seneca Creek Watershed Partners in Poolesville. Thomas will be supporting our salt watch efforts, water quality monitoring, and several other projects.

The Martin Family

The Martin Family, with the help of SCWP Board members, hosted a 6 hour trash pickup of Diamond Farm Park, Gaithersburg along the Long Draught Branch. Above are just some of the trash bags filled in this event. The Martins plan to host annual cleanups in this area.

The EcoSWIFT Team - Little Bennett Regional Park

EcoSWIFT is a dedicated group of high school students in Maryland who thrive to protect our environment. They host community clean-up events throughout Maryland and host seminars to spread awareness about current environmental problems.
