New Flood Sensors

New flood sensors are being installed in Montgomery County including at Gunner's Lake in the Seneca Watershed. The 34 flood sensors will be near hazard dams, low-lying roads and flood-prone areas to provide real-time detection and warning, improving public safety. Photos (taken by Merikay Smith, SCWP President) are from an event hosted by the MC Department of Environmental Protection with Marc Erlich and others speaking.

The sensors are made by Intellisense Systems Inc. and funding was provided by the Federal government DHS and DEP in partnership with the Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, DOT, Fire and Rescue and M-NCPPC. The need for such sensors is related to the increasing rainfall in our area with increased heavy downpours related to climate change.
