In Appreciation: Richard Wilder

Richard Wilder

Richard Wilder has been part of Seneca Creek Watershed Partners since its inception and served with his wife, Jane, on our Board of Directors. We are sad to share the news of Richard’s passing and extend our condolences to Jane.

This photo was taken as Jane and Richard received an Environmental Award in 2019 from the City of Gaithersburg. Richard and Jane were a tremendous team acting to protect our local streams.

Richard was a knowledgeable and committed volunteer not just for Seneca Creek but other community organizations as well. He chaired the Montgomery Village Foundation Committee on Environment. He served for 5 years on Montgomery County’s Water Quality Advisory Group. He partnered with Friends of Whetstone Lake and was an active member of the Isaac Walton League. He was dedicated to raising water quality consciousness of residents in Montgomery Village, especially for wetlands. With others he worked to stop the extension of the mid-county highway (the group TAME). Truly, if we had a few more individuals with the expertise and willingness to serve that defined Richard Wilder, our community and natural world would greatly benefit.
